Polk County Republicans Take a Stand

Not a day after I submitted my resignation to the Polk County Republican Party, did I receive an email from one of the officers, including a rough draft of a resolution in opposition to the statewide smoking ban.   (I told you they’re good folks.)

Well, I just found out, via the Reverend Jody, that the resolution passed!  It looks as though Sheila Harsdorf would do well to rethink her position on the smoking ban proposal.  (She’s speaking at the Lincoln Day Dinner for the PCRP this year.)

Do I have regrets about leaving the party?  Maybe a few.  Like I stated in my resignation letter, the Polk County Republicans are a really great bunch of people.  But, I’m finding that grassroots efforts on behalf of liberty – rather than a party – are more well-received by the public.  When the only motive is ensuring freedom, people listen.

My thanks goes out to the PCRP, and to Reverend Jody, who proposed the resolution.

  1. Please, Joey, intro yourself, because I’m fairly new to the area in Polk Co. Also if you could explain why your leaving the Rep.party this late, after the RINO’s have maybe,
permanently damaged the party. In ‘04 the Rep. were sent to DO a job, of which they failed miserably. They got spanked in ‘06, and rightly so. It was too bad for the tried and true Reagan Republicans for SMALLER gov’t.,etc. The general public and many conservatives
did not come through for these candidates. So often people throw out the proverbial BABY ( good conserv.candidates running on a GOP ticket) w/ the bath water( the phonies and RINO’s). Who said that life
is fair?? Sincerely submitted, Gary Merchant.

  2. Please, don’t get me wrong! I highly respect Sheila, but I totally diagree about her lack of stand for personal property rights, i.e. the smoking ban on personal property( bars and rest.) which is one of the basic freedoms gained by our forefathers w/ their blood, sweat, tears and their very lives! They fought a revolution to free them from a tyrannical gov’t. i.e. King George! To give these up arbritarily is foolish nonsense!! There again, I’m not sure about the education of our poliitcal leaders today ( they have been schooled in the leftest, Marxist strong-armed union socialist similar to Adolf Hitler’s day!) Do we dare give up something so precious as personal property rights that SOO many gave their lives for!!
And to do it for political expediency! How FAR have we departed from our Constitution! Our forefathers would turn in their graves knowing that “supposed” conservative Republicans was in favor of this!! We need to draw the line of Demarcation in the proverbial SAND, folks!! We either kick out the RINOS ( Rep. in name only) from the party and define what our conservative, Reagan-like principles, and founding beliefs are, OR leave and start or join another PARTY!!
    Again, Sincerely submitted, Gary Merchant.

  3. Hi Gary. Thanks for stopping by.

As to why I left the Republican Party…it wasn’t just because of Sheila. I’m just finding that my political beliefs line up more with the Libertarian philosophy. I’m a huge proponent of ‘live and let live’ and laissez faire capitalism, something that the Republican Party has wandered away from.

I have to stay true to my beliefs, and that’s why I left the Party.

    I’ll send you an email.

  4. Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is a lot more than I expected when I found a link on SU telling that the info here is quite decent. Thanks.
