Slippery Slope

Those who think that smoking bans are harmless need to think again. Once you open the door to government control over legal behavior, it’s a downhill slide…

From Wake Up America:

Mississippi Lawmakers to Debate Banning Obese People in Restaurants

The Smoking Gun is reporting that Mississippi lawmakers are considering a bill that would ban restaurants from serving obese people. This is just the next logical step in the government’s intrusion into personal behavior, and private businesses’ practices. It started with smoking and now it has moved on to who can eat what and where they can eat it.

Is this what we really want? Is this the sort of thing we want in a free society? Remember, much like smoking this is an issue of “public health.”

Oh, and in case you think this is a joke, here is the actual legislation from Mississippi Legislature.

One Response

  1. Here’s the best response I have ever heard when it comes to this sort of thing:

I LOVE IT! People love the government controls when it serves their personal interests, but hate the government when it shows up in their own backyard. Now, all the nonsmoking obese people can think about the monster they fed that led up to this issue.

As a smoker, you can bet I would vote this in. Why? 1) Since I am not obese, but I have to pay for all the extra medical care obese – wait a minute, FAT, people cause due to their poor heath and, the real reason, 2) because it won’t be until EVERYBODY loses their personal rights that we realize the damage we’ve done to our society.

People are down right RUDE to smokers because there’s no law against it. I’ve seen the seemingly nice people turn into the most insulting creatures on earth. All I can say is: “My Turn!”
