Ah yes, chalk this fine fellow up in the “Smoker Hater of the Week” award top ten.
Mr. Warren Schmidt, Esquire wrote this “fine” retort to a rather civilized discourse regarding smoking bans and health care costs over on the Wausau Daily Herald:
“I love it how all of you pro smoking pinheads carry disdain for the non-smoking community that simply would like for their right to not be encroached by your foul smelling carcinogenic polutant called cigarette smoke. You seem to have this morbid rationale that its a property rights issue. Well I have some news for you. Its not. If it is a property rights issue then drinking curfews could not be enforced. If it we’re a property rights issue then no law could be enforced because, “Hey, its my property, I can do what I want.” “It’s my property, I can sit here in the nude if I want because its my property.” The reality of it is that you smokers want to sit their and smoke and you dont care if it harms other people. You cant because you dont even care if it harms yourself. But go ahead and smoke. Enjoy it while it lasts because either smoking will be outlawed or you will be.”
Uh huh. I would laugh… Ok, I did laugh. Hard. But it’s also sad because there are people like this who are absolutely out of control when it comes to smoking.
I just wonder if he realizes he’s hurting his cause more than helping it?

I can’t wait until I am outlawed!
No doubt! I’d take my fat stogie and flaunt it if it were outlawed. And then I would remind people that we have the right to enjoy such things. It comes with being American.
Funny thing is, I don’t have any disdain for the non-smoking community. I just don’t want the militant anti’s telling rest of us that we are too dense to decide whether or not we’re going to patronize a restaurant or tavern that allows smoking.
These twits think that you have the right to assume the risk of driving every day(FAR more dangerous than any secondhand smoke could ever be), but you can’t take the miniscule risk of being voluntarily exposed to a little smoke for an hour or two once a week. How low have we sunk intellectually as a society when this is considered to be logical?
You’re right, though, Ryan. People like Warren certainly don’t help the anti-smoking tyrants’ cause.
I do, however, want them to try to outlaw me.
So how do I get myself a comments avatar like Ryan?
Matt, I think you just need to create a wordpress account and sign in that way. With an account you can set up your avatar etc.
If you just go to http://www.wordpress.com I think there’s a sign-up option there somewhere.
And then the rabid anti-smoker climbed into the very large SUV and spewed petroleum waste into the air all the way home as they fumed about the smoker’s contribution.
I do have disdain for them.
What a Mouthbreather this clown is. Lets see if I follow his logic; since drinking curfews are not being challenged, that must mean that they are constitutional. The insinuation that no illegal act could be penalized because it occurs on private property is vacuous as hell. Memo to Mr. Schmidt: Smoking is a legal activity. And until its not, keep your whiney intrusive ass away from my bar.
