To all the people in the village of Weston:
ACT NOW! Your city board is taking opinions on a smoking ban from residents for the next TWO WEEKS. They have already been approached by The Breathe Fresh Committee who are pushing for a ban by calling each and every one of the village board members, so now the question to ask yourself is if you will allow your homes to be run by some committee from elsewhere, or are you going to run the village yourselves?
Don’t forget, this is a game to them. Weston is the home of Sen. Russ Decker who has opposed the smoking ban at the state level. This “committee” thinks that they can have some fun and peddle some influence in the state - at your expense. Don’t stand for this! The only way you can win this is to take control as village taxpayers and tell your elected officials where you stand.
Here’s the village newsletter that talks about this.
Don’t sit on your butt and compalin when it’s over! Act now. Call, mail, send up smoke signals or send messages via carrier pigeon. LET THESE PEOPLE KNOW WHO LIVES IN WESTON! Two weeks will go by before you know it.

The Village of Weston is one of the latest to tackle the issue. “Our village board was lobbied pretty hard by the tobacco free coalition and the breathe fresh committee”, said Village Administrator Dean Zuleger.

Check out this little “statistic” that was buried…
The second question posed to residents is whether or not they think bars and taverns should be exempt. About 44 percent said yes and 41 percent said no.
Another 24 percent said they oppose any type of ban based on civil rights, not because they smoke.

Only 53% of poll respondants wanted bars exempt. 65% actually wanted a ban in resturants, bars and other workplaces. It doesn’t matter anyway since this wasn’t a scientific poll. Weston board should have a public hearing if they really want to know what the residents want.
Sure, I agree they should hold a public hearing. But they should then bar anybody who isn’t a resident of Weston from participating since we know that the pro-ban crowd packs these hearings with people from throughout the state including Smoke Free WI staff from Madison.
