I administrate a local forum for Sheboygan. I was doing some “house-cleaning” and stumbled onto the following post:
I was surprised that Sheboygan has not made the choice to run with the leaders (over 2600 other communities) in establishing a smoke-free community. It seems there is a great effort underway that Sheboygan has chose to ignore, to this point.
I did notice, however, that Emmer’s bar greatly supported continuing to allow smoke to fill the air. Also, disappointed at the new owner’s of the Copper Penny Cafe (forgot the new name, sorry). I thought it would be a great lunch, instead I was sitting next to two chain smokers. Dave’s Who’s Inn – could your upstairs be any worse? It doesn’t matter where you go with secondhand smoke in Sheboygan – it’s all just as bad.
As I am not a Sheboygan resident, nor a resident of the state of Wisconsin, I won’t be

Of all the unmitigated GALL! Makes me wonder if SFWI didn’t pay him to come here and scope out our city as it’s the same kind of shameless, anti-freedom self-promotion they practice. Suffice it to say, this post is history – as should SFWI be.

well Sheboygan sounds like a great town. There is no doubt he was paid to make such assessments.

there are state senators there that are proposing that the smoking ban be reevaluated. So I would imagine this guy will have his hands full at home for a while.
All I can say is don’t let the antismoking fascists get you down. And if by some stroke of fate they do succeed in this country, there’s always Mexico.
It’s sad that it has come to this. While we struggle to build some sort of unity in the “resistance” movement, the anti’s recruit their friends from all over to come and make comments like this.
If you take a step back, it’s pretty clear what this joker is doing. He’s popping in to try and humiliate the people of Sheboygan and make them feel that they’re missing out on something really great. It’s a common and despicable tactic that capitalizes on the general publics’ heard mentality. It’s the “everybody else is doing it, so why aren’t YOU?” argument. You could just as easily write an article and call the people of Sheboygan a bunch of backwards hick losers for still allowing smoking and it would net you the same message… And at least it would be an honest, up front argument for a change!
It just galls me that this guy saw fit to butt in on a Sheboygan message board to push his agenda and adds insult to injury by actually traveling here to push his discriminating ideals. They actually seem to have a nationwide, big-money backed agenda/campaign going on which raises a ton of red flags.
Sheboygan citizen’s can make up their own minds and didn’t need his two biased cents tossed in the mix. When this comes up again, and it will, I’ll be sure to let our council know that this is NOT the wishes of the citizen’s but of a larger, hostile group of anti-smoking movement.
One thing he did though, is give me the names of 3 places I hope will support us. I’ll be contacting all three this week.

I will admit that I do the same thing,except for our side. I feel it is necessary to keep the disease from spreading, and that people should know the facts.
Yes, I might be guilty of defending “our side” on a message board in the future,also but I sure wouldn’t single out a few private business owners who choose to be a non-smoking biz, and make them sound like the evils of the world. Only if they get snarky about it like the troublesome Highland House did…
Having learned more about some of the tactics of SWFI and the likes, I also have a feeling this joker was paid to do this and can’t help but wonder just where that money came from and if tax dollars were included.
