Gotcha unveiled

As Ryan reported in Gotchya,Smoke Free is claiming the ban is causing a reduction in asthma attacks. The problem is that this is yet another agenda driven study with no control groups using similar methods as the already dis-proven heart attack studies. . Hey they tell you to follow the money, big tobacco money is bad. Can’t the same be said about a front group for Johnson and Johnson?

Haun the author of this study doesn’t have quite as many discredited studies as Glantz, but she is working on it!

Hahn was awarded a fellowship from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse Program (2000-2003). The fellowship was used to enhance her tobacco policy research skills.

She directs the Kentucky Center for Smoke-Free Policy, created in 2004 with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Can you say activist in scientific clothing?

Follow the money. More grants to Haun;

  1. Ha! I guess I should actually spell things right. Of course, I pronounce “gotcha” like “gotchya” so I guess it’s an honest mistake :)

    That aside, I left a comment on SFWI’s blog regarding this and challenged them as to how they can use such a study as definitive evidence to support restrictive public policy… I doubt they’ll approve it, since they have a piss-poor record of allowing dissenting commentary on their blog, but I would love to know what they have to say about this.

  2. Actually I think you spelled it right. Since it is slang I doubt it will be in any dictionary. Actually I think it is probably got ya.

    I left one on SF’s site too. They don’t pass too many of mine however.

  3. I noticed that as of this morning, none of our commentary had been approved. Coincidentally, I filed a complaint with the BBB’s nonprofit side noting that Smoke Free WI refuses to acknowledge or return any correspondences nor do they acknowledge anything but supporting opinion to their cause. We’ll see what comes of this, since I think that a 501(c)(3) has to, at a bare minimum, respond to inquiries…

  4. Yes I noticed the same thing, I wasn’t surprised though.
