Bill Hannegan and Marth Brothers on the Radio

Bill Hannegan from Keep St. Louis Free! was on the McGraw Milhaven show on KTRS 550 out of St. Louis, and we have the audio:

First Segment

Second Segment

He was also joined by the Marth Brothers, who sell affordable, effective air purification units.

Make sure to check out the end of the second segment, where a caller (’Fred’) claims to be a bar owner in Illinois who loves the smoking ban, but is quickly called out as a fraud by Bill and McGraw.  (By the way, McGraw is a smoking ban proponent.)

It’s a great interview (albeit maddening), and Bill does a phenomenal job proving that there really is no need for smoking ban legislation.  He insists that  a free-market approach in regards to smoking venues matched with air purification technology make smoking bans an unnecessary infringement upon the property rights of business owners, and we here at BtBWI concur.

Keep it up, Bill!

  1. Way to go bill. One suggestion though. Next time they grill you on the Surgeon generals report remind them that it was not a study but a meta-analysis on cherry picked studies. and then tell them about this on meta’s

[P]roblems have been so frequent and so deep, and overstatements of the strength of conclusions so extreme, that one might well conclude there is something seriously and fundamentally wrong with the method. For the present . . . I still prefer the thoughtful, old-fashioned review of the literature by a knowledgeable expert who explains and defends the judgments that are presented. We have not yet reached a stage where these judgments can be passed on, even in part, to a formalized process such as meta-analysis.

  2. I enjoyed listening to that radio broadcast with lots of common sense attitudes to smoking bans and relevant the world over including this country (UK) which has the most draconian smoking ban in Europe. Since the smoking ban experiment came to these shores on the 1st of July last year the hospitality industry has been decimated! Of course the anti tobacco lobbyists who get peoples tax money; ironically smokers tax money too; said pubs would not suffer as a consequence of the SBE; after all it is in their interests to brainwash us into thinking so. Now it’s the turn of those hit hardest by the ban; the pubs. The FLVA, (Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations) here in the UK asked pubs for their story; and it’s grim reading. You can read the report here: http://www.snapdrive.net/files/492358/My%20Documents/Smoking_%26_Tobacco_Control_Full_Report.pdf

And there is a write up about that report here: http://www.bii.org/index.cfm/asset_id,4145801/fuseaction,news/index.html

    This madness must stop NOW!

  3. Thanks for visiting us, John.

We’re keeping a close eye on the UK and the economic harm that the ban is causing. Please stop back often, and thanks for posting the report. I’ll feature it in a post on this blog.

    Keep fighting, brother.
