There is a bill in Ohio that would allow the exemptions that were implied in the ballot the people voted for. Smoke free wants no part of it. From their website.
The Smoke Free Workplace Act, popularly passed in 2006 with the support of 2.2 million Ohioans, is being threatened. A bill was introduced in the Senate recently that would overturn the Smoke Free Workplace law that ensures all business will operate on a level playing field with one fair, statewide standard that is easy to understand and enforce.
Furthermore, the intent of the law—to protect all workers from secondhand smoke—was clearly communicated to Ohio voters through every piece of campaign material and every campaign advertisement. The message never changed and our commitment to that message never wavered.
Ah yes and enforcement is extremely successful. To find your favorite smokeasy just go to www.smokechoke.com

“The Smoke Free Workplace Act, popularly passed in 2006 with the support of 2.2 million Ohioans”
……………………………..
There are a little over 8.7 million adults in Ohio.
2.2 million is 25% of 8.7 million.
2.2 million sounds like a lot of people; but, it is a long ways from a majority and actually is only 1/3 of the nonsmokers in Ohio(76% or 6.6 million adults)
Gary, Yes I know perhaps the other 2/3 were apathetic and didn’t care one way or the other. Maybe now that they have seen the economic damage they will care!
that site is hilarious, shows that businesses are doing what they need to in order to survive!
As in many states, the ACS 16 Cigarette Claim was used to push the ban:

Bravo to the biz owners on that list!!!
“As in many states, the ACS 16 Cigarette Claim was used to push the ban:”
…………………………
Numbers can be so much fun!
2006 SG’s Report says that SHS exposed non-smoker would have a 25% increased risk of cancer as compared to a non-exposed non-smoker.
ACS says that a 10 cigarette/day smoker has 1000% greater risk of cancer than a non-smoker.
Soooo, if that smoker would smoke 6 more cigarettes/day,a 60% increase, they would decrease their risk of cancer by 97.5%!!!
The ACS would not tell a lie.
So…I went to the “smokeasy” web site and pulled out a random sample of establishments. I decided to then log into the enforcement system and check things out. Sorry, but for every NE and NW Ohio establishment that I checked each facility listed has had enforcement against them and they woosed out either after the first letter or the first fine.
So much for “doin’ what they gotta do”. If they’d get off their lazy butts and change the law then maybe I could respect them. Being on this fake website though is wimping out.
Veteran that is fair,
It is not a fake website, It is a website to report scofflaws, I with my warped sense of humor call it a smokeasy website. I am aware that you are working with smokefree as I have debated you several times on Topix. I am doing what I can to help them change the law and I am doing everything in my power to keep such draconian laws from being passed here. As far as enforcement every article that I have read on enforcement in Ohio is an out and out joke with hundreds of thousands being spent with little taken in. With even more counties turning enforcement over to the state because they find it too costly and impossible to enforce!
Those of you who keep complaining that you are losing business due to the ban (no one believes and studies disprove that, as do experiences in other states)… just wait until nonsmokers boycott all places that allow smoking!
I agree! The law says that you can do what ever you like in life except when you are enroaching on the rights of others. Second hand cigarette smoke enroaches on the rights of others.
Brad the only studies that claim the bans don’t hurt business are those done by tobacco control, the real world says otherwise.
Angela Show me what right of yours that has been violated. You people claim the second hand smoke violates your rights but I have never found one of you that can show me what right has been violated!
I think that with all the other problems going on in this country, that these do gooders would go after more serious issues, like health care, the economy etc.
The smoking ban should have been left to establishments. Particularly in bars. I know people that didn’t even smoke, but would smoke in a bar.
Smoking in a bar is like motor oil is to a car.
