Health Minister Ab Klink will meet with the branch organisation of the hotel, restaurant and café sector to discuss a recently introduced smoking ban. The branch organisation has found that an increasing number of bars and cafés ignore the ban, and want the minister to take a decision on how to proceed. The branch organisation says the government should either strictly enforce the smoking ban or scrap it entirely. Resistance against the ban is reportedly spreading like wildfire. As of Monday, all café owners in the southern city of Den Bosch will put their ashtrays back on the tables.

Woohoo! Kudos to Dutch restaurants/cafes and bars for having the courage to ignore the smoking ban there.
Now if only some restaurants and bars in the Chicago area(and in the city of Chicago) would also have the courage to ignore the smoking ban, thus which would put the pressure on Illinois state lawmakers(and especially the Chicago area lawmakers, which gave Illinois anti groups the margin they needed to get the state ban passed in 2007) to finally scrap the state ban that has devastated bars and restaurants throughout Illinois. *sigh!*
Allan, I have it on good authority there are plenty of Smokeasy’s in Chicago. They usually don’t turn on the smoking lamp until after 9pm. Just look for a full parking lot without a crowd out front.

I’m still on the lookout for places that do turn on the smoking lamp, and haven’t had much luck finding places that do look the other way. (save so far for one or 2 places I’ve noticed that are this way) Marshall, I interestingly have no clue why I haven’t had luck in finding businesses that are like this!
Guess this goes to show that I wish a site like Smoke Choke Ohio had been created for Illinois…..
Thank you for posting these sayings.

They are very powerful words. If every place that is affected by the smoking ban would disobey the law what could they do!
Maybe it is time to really fight back. Will they put all the smokers in jail? If there is a fine then no one pays it.
It is all or nothing. If the Dutch can fight back so can the Wisconsin and other states smokers and non smokers who wants to stop being pushed around. Let our actions be heard! Get out your ashtrays or don’t put them away.
Our City Council is debating a smoking ban this month. Many of us are planning to attend public hearings on the 8th & 14th of this month.
I would suggest approximately 2/3ds of the council support the ban and the ones who don’t appear very quiet.
We are in the fight against this type of laws.
