  2. A smoking ban was put in place in WA and everyone I know (and I know a lot of smokers, i am a smoker) think it’s the best thing that could have happened. It seems weird at first, especially in bars, but it’s so nice to not come home reeking of smoke, and I just don’t think I have a right to smoke around people. Just go outside! It’s not that big of a deal. As long as it’s a statewide ban on smoking in ALL public spaces, no one will be losing business to places that allow smoking.

  3. heather;

    Ah yes yet another smoke free shill, you kind of give yourself away. In one breath you claim to be a smoker and in the next you say “but it’s so nice to not come home reeking of smoke” If you really smoke then the smell would be on you anyway. Unless you are a socialist and think that there is no such thing as private property then your statement “As long as it’s a statewide ban on smoking in ALL public spaces, no one will be losing business to places that allow smoking.” is pure B.S. (Actually it is comical since it is an admission that Smoke Free places do in fact lose business to smoking establishment but then again there is that socialist “level playing field.)
    For one thing a business is private property not a public space. Also the only studies that claim no economic harm are those done by tobacco control and not economist and are heavily biased. But since you are probably a member of Tobacco Control you knew that didn’t you!

  4. How it’s always great to hear from another fool like her. Can I say hypocrite or what if you don’t want to smell like smoke after going to a smoking-allowed establishment, yet YOU ARE a smoker? Explain that nonsense to me.

    And why don’t you explain ALL the businesses in Illinois that are still suffering, due to either a local ban enacted before the 2008 state ban, or after the state ban started? I can think of a bunch of diners, including one in my neighborhood, plus one in a nearby suburb, where smoking bans SO HEAVILY cut into their overnight business, that they decided to no longer operate during overnight hours. If one didn’t like smoke, they always could’ve freely voiced their preferences to the business manager and/or owner that they didn’t like the fact it permitted smoking, and took their business elsewhere. At least you think that’s the way our society should work, but sadly it never does that way, all thanks to heavily funded pharmaceutical groups that only selfishly care to increase their bottom line by shaming smokers, and pressuring more into buying their unsafe nicotine replacement products. Just google Chantix, and read up on all the smokers who immediately realized about its painfully negative effects.

    Well Heather, I hope you jump for joy the day the government ever goes after a vice you love.
