Signs of the nanny state gone wild.
A COUNCIL has become the first in Wales to impose a blanket ban on smokers adopting or fostering children.
Anti-smoking campaigners last night welcomed the move by Merthyr Tydfil council, but critics have pointed out there are already not enough foster parents in Wales.
They fear the changes might discourage potential [...]

I don’t even know what to say about this:
‘Smoking police’ hit the streets to shock people into quitting
Smokers will be stopped in the street and asked to take a carbon monoxide test in London’s most hard-hitting anti-smoking campaign.
‘Smoking police’ will target people at betting shops, bus stops and shopping centres to shock them into giving [...]

From Cigar Encyclopedia:
Los Angeles, September 11 – “The Royal College of Physicians says radical measures are needed to curb smoking: swinging increases in tobacco tax; tougher penalties for tobacco smugglers; and promoting alternative forms of nicotine. The college says the approach ‘has the potential to end tobacco smoking in the UK within the next 20 [...]

Sure, people don’t listen when we say it (and we have), but in Canada they actually swallow their pride and print it in the papers!
We have said on numerous occasions that smoking restrictions and taxes have done a good job of filtering off the casual smokers or the ones who do it from time to [...]

I’ve now seen it all…
An artwork intended to be a commentary on the smoking ban may never see the light of day – because of the smoking ban.
US artist Norma Jeane, whose previous works include a cheese made of breast milk and an invitation to 160 people to have sex on a Roman roof terrace, [...]

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more bizarre, the UK’s NHS does…
Flowers banned from hospital wards
Officials in two NHS regions have ordered staff to prevent visitors taking lilies and geraniums on to hospital wards.
They claim pollen from the flowers can cause allergies and that vases of water are potentially dangerous…
… Some hospitals ban [...]

OK, so we all know that Austrailia has gone around the bend when it comes to the government deciding what is best for people… But this latest “report,” which in itself is irritating, goes beyond the pale by specifically saying that “Willoughby said further research was needed before a similar ban could be made in [...]

Yup.
Can somebody please explain to me how it is that tobacco may be barred from any sort of advertising – even so much as having a product visible in some places… Yet anti-smoking campaigns can run what are essentially “R” rated commercials on tv intended to shock people?
Most graphic anti-smoking ad coming

This is one way to go about things…
MP barred for backing smoking ban
A Greater Manchester MP has been barred from one of his local pubs for supporting the smoking ban.
Roger Hantulik, landlord of the Prince of Orange in Ashton-under-Lyne, has put up a poster telling Ashton MP David Heyes he is not welcome.
Mr Hantulik said [...]
